Our Causes

Electoral justice, Sustainable democracy

OILICE aims to fight electoral injustice and corruption at all levels to achieve sustainable democracy in Africa. We believe that to reinvent democracy and foster a political life in the African continent that inspires confidence and pride among its citizens requires rehabilitating the relationship of trust between citizens and their political and administrative representatives. Therefore, our actions are aimed at both citizens and institutions. Join our cause of promoting democratic values and developing actions to promote the holding of elections under internationally recognized standards of integrity. We seek to detect the threats to the democratic system, improve electoral processes, educate citizens, and train electoral officials, members of political parties, and civil society organizations in good electoral practices.

Democratic Rights to Vote and to run for office

We believe sustainable democracy cannot be achieved if citizens are unaware of their democratic rights- their right to vote and to run for office. We are dedicated to supporting public and private institutions to educate citizens about their voting rights and how to use them wisely.

Many years after African independence, the citizens are still deprived of their fundamental right to vote and run for office. Africans do not believe in democracy in Africa due to prevailing corruption and the constant abuse of power by the head of the states to stay in office. To restore their confidence and encourage them to participate in the electoral process, citizens must be aware of their political rights.

Education to democracy, credible elections

We consider citizen participation as a factor of sustainable democracy. It is the citizens’ democratic right, without which true democratic governance cannot be achieved in any nation. And while the right to vote and run for office is linked to other human rights, such as the rights to education and information and freedom of opinion and expression, we strive to promote the full range of human rights, providing education, whether formal or informal, to African citizens and supporting governing institutions to help build resilient democracies that benefit all.

Legislative/ Civic Education

For African citizens to be able to participate in and contribute to democracy effectively, they need to be well-informed about how the various social and political processes work. Consideration should be given to the current education system and its efficiency, as well as the promotion of civic culture to sensitize citizens not only about their electoral rights but also about their responsibilities as citizens.
Support our cause of introducing legislative civic education in the African educational system toward achieving true democracy. Forming an active and responsible citizen, capable of contributing to the development and social welfare, has been a fundamental element of our causes: contributing to the development of authentic and productive democratic participation, facilitating social cohesion, trust between citizens and political representatives, and respect for human rights.

Seeking Electoral Justice

Our goal is to make attempts and support the system to achieve electoral justice, which is the benchmark for protecting the political rights of citizens and political parties. Support us in our fight against the prevailing corruption in public institutions, fraudulent practices in the electoral processes, increased abstentionism, and the discredit of the authorities.
We believe that electoral observation, integrity, and transparency are fundamental to guaranteeing electoral justice. We apply a methodology for electoral observation based on the most up-to-date international criteria to offer a comprehensive perspective of the electoral processes in the region.

Social Communication

Through social communication, we strive to inform and educate citizens on issues relevant to electoral processes, their electoral rights, and other issues relevant to their society. Our goal is to transmit information, messages, and ideas to spread awareness and influence social attitudes and public opinions toward achieving electoral justice.

Join our cause to expand our ability to educate citizens socially and institutionally in a series of principles and values that shape the internal narratives we all carry within us and enable them to be more politically aware and raise voices against electoral injustices.
